I finished reading the book of Ruth yesterday and am still mulling it over in my mind. I was thinking, after 10 years Naomi was finally moving back to her homeland. She is dead in every sense of the word except physically. Her husband is dead. Her sons are dead and her hope is dead... but Ruth's hope seems very much alive!

Ruth is determined to restore Naomi and her hope. Somehow, somewhere, Ruth caught a glimpse of the God of all gods and she had determined not to let go. It appears when Naomi and her family moved from Bethlehem to Moab they not only shared their worship and belief in the one true God, (Elohim) as Ruth called Him, but they allowed Him to lead, guide and work through them daily. So much so that Ruth chose Him over all other gods and chose the risk associated with Naomi over the surety and comfort of the familiar.

Like Naomi, may I allow God to use me in such a way that others not only notice but commit to God for the duration. Like Ruth, may I be so committed to the call God has upon me that I move forward in it regardless.

When things look as if they are bitter and hopeless don't give in to depression, anger or bitterness. When you feel all but dead and your spirit is exhausted wait for God's strength because He has promised to be near the broken hearted and those crushed in spirit.

This morning, may you be challenged by Naomi and Ruth as well. May you hold close your help during the dark times. As you move forward in the way God is calling may you determine, like Ruth, to embrace Elohim (the one true God) through the difficult journey. Move forward brave pilgrim and watch God carve out another season of fullness for you!
